Making calzone lately.

In Exhibit A on the left, properly stretched dough covers the cheesy filling. In Exhibit B on the right, cheesiness has escaped to spill onto the pan and form the delicious, illicit treat known as "roasty cheese". Questionable whether this is actually a defect, or if it is instead perhaps a feature. More testing required.

I said there would be kitties here, but first hexagons.

Ilona the mouse models the first few sock-yarn sized hexagons for the Beekeeper's Quilt I'm making. Hexipuffs, as they are also known (due to unspeakably adorable squishiness), are delightful in the individual making, but daunting when one considers the hundreds upon hundreds required to actually construct an entire blanket. Mostly I think it's the cost of all that pretty yarn.

This is possibly why I decided to learn how to make socks. More on that someday.

On the less successful baking front, there was an attempt at macarons, which resulted in these. Not only did they crackle and warp weirdly, they stuck to the parchment paper. Either the cooking time or the oven temperature are terribly terribly wrong in my cookbook. Or both. More testing required.

The golden yellow is all gone from them, but these are coreopsis flowers. I picked out the seeds from the dried pods and saved them, intending to plant them again the next weekend. That was probably a month ago now. Maybe I'll plant them next spring. Yes. That is a good plan.

There was a tea party with parents (both sets). I think peanut butter celery sticks should become de rigueur for fancy tea parties. They were all the rage.

Our watchkitties take their sentry duty very seriously. Especially the backyard. Squirrels are fiercely discouraged from approaching the perimeter.

I attempted Tour de Fleece, where the Ravelry folks get together and spin fiber into yarn every day of the Tour de France. I got sick, though, and had to stop. Next year, maybe. I still made some good progress, so there's that.

My chair was commandeered by a sleepy watchkitty.

So was my desk. The sacrifices we make here for security.
